Most people think of thanksgiving as the National holiday in which we give thanks to God for things like health, family, friends, shelter from extreme heat or blistering cold weather, food, etc. Is it just something people do once a year? Well let’s look into it!!! Let’s look at it from a different perspective.
Thanksgiving isn’t just another holiday to prepare food or your home for guests. It is something we should do continually!
I feel that a lot of times we tend to get so busy and forget about the meaning of the holiday and its purpose, even though the title of the holiday “Thanksgiving” is obvious what it’s about! Not only should we be thankful for the many great blessings God has given each and every family, but we should always be thankful as Colossians 3:17 says, (As well as many other scriptures)
Colossians 3:15-17 KJV- “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
So, what does it mean to be thankful? How can we be thankful?
“Being thankful is a gratefulness, a sense of kindness received.” (W 1828)
Thankfulness for Jesus’ free gift of salvation should be the heart of every believer. Jesus died for all, to save all that believe on him from an eternal life of damnation, and by his blood we are made whole. And that is why we should always have a thankful heart and make a joyful noise unto the Lord!!!!
Luke 18:27 KJV- “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
Psalm 100:1-5 KJV- “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: Come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; And his truth endureth to all generations.“
John 14:6 KJV- “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.“
